With Easter coming upon us this weekend, I have been getting ready for the day. The kids were quick to remind me that we need to get yarn for our yearly tradition...which I thought I had to share!

I read about this several years ago, and you can find more details about it  here

The night before Easter we place the kids Easter Baskets and a thing of yarn in each basket.

The next morning when the kids get up, there is a yarn maze leading them to their basket. We use a different color for each kid (to help keep it more simple), but they LOVE going on a hunt trying to find their basket. We make it super crazy, going downstairs, under things, back upstairs - all over the place! It has been a fun tradition that the kids ask for every year.

I wish I had a picture of my kids doing this, but I don't...so this picture will give you the general idea:

I guarantee if you try it with your kids, it will be a hit...

whoo hoo for yarn and yarn mazes :)

I read about this idea in Family Fun magazine. I thought it looked like a super cute idea, so I had to make it.

It cost me about $3 to make! I love things that are super easy and cheap to make.

What you need:
Egg Carton
Scissors
Tissue paper
Little Prizes
Glue
Glue Stick

Here's how you make it:
Picture
Start with an empty egg carton. I used the 18 egg size. Family Fun did the 12 egg size and did a 12 day count down. Mine will be a 9 day countdown and each of my children will get a prize each day.

First, cut off the lid and cut off all the top knobby things. You want it to be flat.
Picture
Next you need to make a top, I flipped the egg carton upside down and traced it on the tissue paper.

Cut little circles out of tissue paper to cover each hole.

You will then glue the circles to the tissue paper. I used a glue stick to do that part.

I decided to embellish mine a little more. I added numbers on each one so my kids know what which one they can get each day. (My tissue paper colors were limited, but you could really make these fun with other colors)

I went to the Dollar store and bought $3 worth of prizes. (My only cost)  Next you'll put the little prizes inside each cup.

Last but not least, you'll put glue all around the edges of the carton and lay your cover on top. Let it dry and it will be ready for your kids to punch out each day before Easter.

My kids are already excited to see what's hidden behind each number!

What a fun little idea huh? I love it!

We don't usually do much for St. Patricks Day, the most we do is the traditional wear something green. I have been trying to come up with some fun ideas to switch things up a little this year. I made these to use with my kids and thought I would share them with you.

I am going to send my kids on a treasure hunt to find the pot of gold left behind by a leprechaun. Double bonus: Chores will get done as well!

You will start by handing them the first clue. Once they get to the location of the clue, you will give them a  Naughty Leprechaun Chore Card. Once they complete the chore, they get the next clue.

I am going to make my kids do their regular chores: trash, laundry, sweeping etc. For smaller kids you could do something easy like put away 5 toys, help wash the table - something simple.

At the end of the adventure, reward them with things like chocolate gold coins, suckers, and candy necklaces!

Here are the clue cards and chore cards I made for my kids, feel free to use them!
I told my kids about this idea, and they both said that they are excited to do chores on St. Patricks day so they can get a special treat!
